TAGHeuer MIKROGRAPH - CAR5040.FC8177

This very special limited edition from TAG Heuer is the first mechanical watch to feature a chronograph with a central 1/100th of a second hand. Part of the brand's recent range of ultra-high performing in-house movements, the Mikrograph uses a groundbreaking design evolved from TAG's famous Calibre 360, which could also measure hundredths of a second. It's actually a dual movement: one part uses an escapement beating at 28,000bph to show standard time and date, with a self-winding rotor; the other part runs at a whopping 36,000bph and allows for the remarkable chronograph function. This section requires hand winding but does have an impressive power reserve of 100 hours. Despite the cutting-edge tech involved, the aesthetic is beautifully vintage, inspired by classic Heuer stopwatches and the brand's long involvement with motor sports.
